Geoffrey Douglas Madge (1941) is born in Australia. He studied at the Adelaide conservatory with Clemens Leski. In 1963, after winning the ABC-competition in Sydney he moved to Europe for further studies with Geza Anda, Peter Solymos and Eduardo del Pueyo. He lives in the Netherlands since 1970 with his Dutch-Hungarian wife. He taught at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague from the 1970ties till 2006.
Geoffrey Madge played solo concertos and recitals in most capitals of Europe as also on the European festivals. He made tours through Japan, Australia and gave successful debuts in America (Chicago) in 1983 and Canada (Montreal) in 1984. He is known by his audiences and critics for his virtuosity, musical taste and originality. Internationally well known is his anthology of piano works of Busoni (praised with an Edison), Sorabji's Opus Clavicembalisticum, Russian music from the 1920ties, the piano concertos of Nikolai Medtner (BIS), the Chopin- Godowsky etudes, Scelsi- and Wolpe programs, the Busoni piano concerto and recently the 2nd piano concerto of Skalkottas with the BBC Symphony Orchestra released by BIS in 2005.
In September 2005 Geoffrey Madge was awarded in Cracow, Poland, the prestigious Silver Medal “For Merits to Culture Gloria Artis” for his very prominent artistic creations and great contribution to culture. |
